MikeMartinRacing.com: Running is a Great Way to Cross-Train, Even for Cyclists

Nice Article Mike. I use to run more last year, but have been cycling more lately. Running is direct drive sport, About 5 years ago when I started running for the first time it was hard to complete a "MILE" . a few thousand feet and your huffing and puffing. I like to run when bad weather makes it hard to cycle outdoors. I total agree on its a great cross training sport. The best advice I have to improve your training is to register for a 5k or 10k run, it motivates to train and push yourself.

Hey Brock, thanks for the comment. I definitely agree that running takes a lot of determination to really get good at. I can remember in Freshman year (I'm a junior), when I too thought a mile was absolutely treacherous. Thankfully, because I got in such good shape with cycling, when I began running again, I was able to increase my mileage quite a bit. Right now I'm up to about 4 miles and loving it. I doubt I'll be signing up for any 5 or 10k races though. However, I definitely want to do some cycling group rides this year to hopefully increase my speed just a bit and get used to riding in a pack.
