I love motocross and prefer dirt bikes on most days. Its great that you can get back on the bike (inside at least), cycling is a great way to stay in shape. I have heard a lot of bad things about PT, it seems to be very vigorous and sometimes painful, but I suppose it is a necessary step. As far as diet goes, while I like to stay in shape, i eat a ton of food. Lots of fruits, veggies, grains, and meats. I'm not sure how well I would be able to deal with a depleted diet. I hope your situation improves, keep at the PT and the cycling and before long you'll be back to normal. Have they given you a date yet on when you will be able to ride mx again?

Re: Planning for 2009 (Step 1): Winter Cross-Training

With all of the complications from my broken leg, my winter training is very limited from what I'm used to doing. However since moving to Traverse City I now have the opportunity to pick up sports like cross country skiing and aerobic snowshoeing on the trails. Physical therapy started this week and its making me realize just how much damage I did to my leg/ankle, and how much longer its really going to take before I can even jog again. I just set up my bike on my trainer (I'd like to try rollers) so I'm going to alternate riding the bike 4 days a week, on the days I don't have PT. Being on blood thinners has also destroyed my diet thus far (no green veggiesfor the most part) so I'm working with my doctor to find a balance in my medications and my diet. The holidays are never easy but hopefully I'll start seeing some consistent changes/progress from here on out. As corny as it sounds, get one of those giant yoga balls and some of the elastic resistance bands...its amazing the workout you can get with your own body weight and a bit of rubber...no weight sets needed.

Re: Planning for 2009 (Step 1): Winter Cross-Training

Hey Mike...linked your blog through vital mx and thought it was well written.
